Smoothie Bowl - Farmers Market Finds Pt. 1

When Ricky and I were living in NYC, we had a “spot” for nearly every possible type of dining you could think of. We had our bagel spot(s), our ramen spot, our Thai spot, our "it's not a date night" date spot, our large party dinner spot, and so many more. But the one category we always felt was lacking was casual breakfast. Now, brunch? NYC obviously takes the cake on the brunch game (or should I say, drunch?)...

However, I'm not here to talk about brunch. I'm here to talk about breakfast. Since moving to LA, Ricky and I have grown to love the many casual breakfast spots that litter the city. One of my favorite and most reliable healthy little spots in Santa Monica is SuperFood Cafe. SuperFood is the perfect balance of quick, healthy, and tasty - everything you need in a morning food routine. I can't speak for the entire menu because I get the exact same thing every time (we're all creatures of habit, don't judge). But what is the real MVP? Their smoothies. We alternate between a couple options, but my favorite is their Green Peach, which served as the inspiration for this Farmers Market Smoothie Bowl.

When we aren’t busy spending time with friends and family, traveling, or hiking one of LA’s many trails, one of my favorite weekend outings is to the Brentwood Farmers Market. Call me basic, but I seriously love waking up early and making my way there if my schedule permits. The Brentwood Market is on the smaller side, but what it may lack in size it more than makes up for in quality. It has everything you would look for in an outdoor market, including arguably the best hummus I've ever had (shout-out to Brothers Hummus).

I picked up some yellow donut peaches, spinach, avocados, and berries for this smoothie bowl, along with a few items for a corn and tomato salsa (recipe coming soon). This smoothie bowl is the perfect start to any summer morning... cold, refreshing, and sweet. Follow the recipe below or feel free to get creative and use my recipe as inspiration for your own smoothie bowls!

Serving Size: 2

Ingredients

Base:

2 frozen bananas, previously sliced

1 large peach (I used yellow donut)

2 handfuls fresh spinach

4 large basil leaves

1/2 small avocado

1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Toppings:

5 strawberries, thinly sliced

1 handful fresh blueberries

1/4 cup granola (I usually make my own but my favorite healthy and readily available brand is Bear Naked)

2 tablespoons shredded coconut

Instructions:

1. Blend all ingredients for the base in a blender. This may take a few minutes because you want the base to be thicker than the average smoothie, hence less liquid.

2. Pour into bowls and top with berries, granola, and coconut.
